What is dim light 5e?

In the context of Dungeons and Dragons 5e, dim light is a type of lighting condition in which an area is partially illuminated, creating shadows and making it difficult to see clearly.

Characters within dim light have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. They also have disadvantage on attack rolls against targets that are in dim light or darkness, as they are more difficult to see and track.

Dim light covers an area from which a character can see within a range of 60 feet. It is usually caused by a single torch, a small fire, or any other small source of light.

Note that creatures with darkvision (such as elves and dwarves) can see in dim light as if it were bright light, and those without darkvision but with a source of light can also see in dim light.
